If you have been thinking about straightening your teeth, but aren’t sure whether to go with clear braces or conventional wires and brackets, call or click and schedule an appointment with Dr. Jeffrey Gilmor.
Your Chicago cosmetic dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth and gums to make sure that you and invisible braces are a good fit. If you have a bad over or under bite or teeth that are horribly rotated or badly spaced, your cosmetic dentist in Chicago may recommend conventional braces.
What is the Difference Between the Two?
Conventional braces are permanently attached to your teeth and cannot be removed at any time during the treatment. Invisalign® clear braces are removed when you eat, brush, and floss. For obvious reasons, this makes oral hygiene much easier as it is impossible to brush under your wires and brackets.
Conventional wires and brackets also take longer to work. Although heat wire is being used to speed up treatment, it can still take up to two years to complete. Invisalign on average takes 12 to 18 months to complete.
How Does Invisalign® Work?
If Dr. Gilmor determines you are a good fit for Invisalign®, you will be given a series of clear plastic aligners that are custom made to fit your teeth. Depending on your prescription, you will be given 11 to 31 pairs of aligners that you will replace with the next in the set every 7 to 14 days.
Invisalign® works by slowly moving your teeth into position without force. Conventional wires and brackets use more force and can cause pain during adjustments, which can be every two weeks. With Invisalign®, you will only need to see Dr. Gilmor every six weeks to make sure your treatment plan is working.
